People are looking for new and nonaddictive ways to treat pain. Topical CBD cream works on a targeted area because the cannabidiol compounds are absorbed through the skin. Instead of entering the bloodstream like CBD does when you take it orally, topical CBD connects with nearby cannabinoid receptors through the skin pores. Our Relieve Topical formula combines CBD, plant terpenes, essential oils, and whole-food emulsifiers to create a smooth and natural pain-relieving formula. In this close-up, we examine the science behind our ingredients. The Pain-Relieving Properties of CBD CBD provides pain relief through several biological processes in the body. Rather than simply blocking the pain signal like some medications, CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) to help the body restore balance and improve function. The ECS regulates and modulates the immune response, communication between cells, metabolism, memory, mood, and pain perception. Preclinical trials show CBD to reduce different types of pain. In one study, CBD reduced pain from a surgical incision . In another, it reduced neuropathic pain and inflammation associated with sciatica . CBD has neuroprotective properties, which means it can help protect and regenerate your nervous system. Preclinical studies show CBD may decrease inflammation and prevent neurodegeneration. CBD i s the first active ingredient in our Relieve Topical formula. It is assisted by an entourage of plant terpenes. Assisted by Plant Terpenes Like the CBD molecule, plant terpenes are specialized molecules able to interact with our ECS and other biological systems. The six terpenes in our Relieve Topical are alpha and beta-pinene, beta-caryophyllene, terpinolene, limonene, and myrcene. Alpha and beta-pinene exhibit anti-inflammatory activity and reduce pain in preclinical studies. Initial studies on beta-caryophyllene show it fights inflammation and accelerates cell healing . Limonene acts as a natural insecticide , antiviral , and kills bacteria . It also enhances mood and well-being, has a sedative effe ct and stress-fighting properties . Myrcene is a well-loved terpene in the world of cannabis research. It works as an analgesic to reduce bodily discomfort and pain and as a sedative . Myrcene also helps your muscles relax . Terpinolene shows promise as an anti-inflammatory and to provide pain relief . It also reduces anxiety and is under research as a way to treat insomnia and panic attacks . All plants create terpenes to attract pollinators, repel pests, repair cells, and other essential functions, but hemp has one of the highest concentrations of any plant. When you breathe in the natural scent of lavender or citrus, for example, you are inhaling beneficial terpene molecules. Pinene smells like pine needs, and limonene has a citrusy aroma. Terpinolene's scent is more intricate than most, including piney, floral, and herbaceous notes. Supported by 10 Essential Oils For complete plant medicine , our Relieve Topical includes ten essential oils: geranium, chamomile, lavender, peppermint, comfrey, eucalyptus, rosemary, tea tree, ylang-ylang, and frankincense. Geranium applied topically on the skin, geranium oil kills bacteria and reduces inflammation . One study found it to relieve nerve pain . German Chamomile reduces swelling and promotes relaxation . In a preclinical study, German chamomile relieved both the symptoms and underlying allergic markers for eczema . Lavender is one of the most popular aromatherapy scents, lavender, is celebrated for its ability to soothe and relax. A clinical study found that lavender reduced pain and eased muscle tension when combined with other pain treatments . Peppermint contains menthol to cool sore, achy muscles. It also reduces the perception of pain and fights inflammation. Comfrey gets conventional researchers' attention, several randomized clinical trials support the usefulness of topically-applied comfrey to treat pain, inflammation of muscles and joints, and sprains . Eucalyptus has a soothing, cooling effect on muscles and eases pain and inflammation . Rosemary is not only great on chicken and potatoes! The essential oil is noted for its pain-relieving and anti-inflammation properties . Tea Tree oil reduces inflammation, kills bacteria, and soothes redness and swelling . Ylang-Ylang studies demonstrate ylang-ylang's capacity to kill bacteria and fungus and help wounds heal. It also may have soothing, sedative properties. Some people use it on their scalps to promote hair growth. Frankincense alleviates pain and swelling and invigorates blood flow in the area . Delivered with Healing Emulsifiers Our Relieve Topical is completed with whole-food emulsifiers, including vitamin E, coconut oil, and rose damascene water. Vitamin E nourishes your skin and protects it from free radicals . Rose Damascena water boasts antibacterial, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties. When applied to your skin, coconut oil fights inflammation, keeps skin moisturized, and promotes wound healing . Concentrated Plant Medicine In Tibet, the word 'jampha' means 'loving kindness.' At Jampha, we strive to create products that bring relief, healing, and vitality to people's lives. Our Relieve Topical builds on the molecular power of CBD with a supporting entourage of Synergy Enhanced Terpene Infusions and Essential oils. Crohn’s disease and fibromyalgia are both chronic conditions that plague millions of Americans. Crohn’s disease affects three million people, while fibromyalgia affects four million. Although they are different problems, CBD is proving effective to reduce symptoms for both conditions in some patients. Crohn’s, an inflammatory disease, is diagnosed when a patient’s intestinal tract has an area that is inflamed and ulcerated. Crohn’s can include an autoimmune reaction in which the immune system attacks healthy cells. Fibromyalgia is neither an inflammatory disease nor an autoimmune disorder. It is a nerve condition. Patients feel inflamed but can test normal for inflammation. Fibromyalgia is a hypersensitivity in the nervous system that causes chronic and widespread pain. IBD or IBS Crohn’s disease is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) without a known cure, though it can go into long-term or even permanent remission. Crohn’s is often treated with anti-inflammatories, steroids, and immunosuppressants. Statistically, the presence of IBD increases the risk of colon cancer. Fibromyalgia is commonly associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Specifically, fibromyalgia occurs in up to 60 percent of people with IBS, and up to 70 percent of IBS sufferers have fibromyalgia . IBS is a gastrointestinal disorder, not a disease. Patients experience chronic bloating, gas, constipation, mucus, or pain. IBS does not increase the chance of colon cancer and is not an inflammatory disease, but does correlate with low-grade and systemic inflammation . Research to Support Personal Experience Both Crohn’s and fibromyalgia are incredibly uncomfortable and can interfere with sufferers’ lives. Getting an accurate diagnosis can be a challenge. Medical treatments and medications are limited, and some patients struggle with side-effects. At Jampha, we’ve had several different clients with either fibromyalgia or Crohn’s disease report improvements in their quality of life after three to six months of specific CBD tinctures and topicals. Here is what science tells us about how this might work. The Body’s Universal Regulator Known to researchers since 1999, the human endocannabinoid system (ECS) modulates and helps maintain balance in the brain, hormonal system, immune, and digestive systems. It has receptor sites and neurotransmitters throughout the body that are powerfully influenced by CBD and plant terpene molecules. Fibromyalgia and the ECS Scientists are investigating what they call an “ECS deficiency” as a likely source for fibromyalgia, migraines, and insomnia . An under-functioning or overactive ECS will fail to modulate and balance the body’s systems. CBD is effective to help balance the endocannabinoid system. It interacts with receptors throughout the body to activate and regulate the ECS. Additionally, research shows CBD to be effective against common fibromyalgia symptoms, including for relief of chronic pain , insomnia, and migraines . Crohn’s and the ECS Crohn’s disease is not an indication of an ECS deficiency, but Crohn’s does seem to interact with the ECS. The ECS regulates gut homeostasis, motility, and inflammation -- all very important to managing Crohn’s and other IBDs. Research so far indicates the endocannabinoid system is promising in the treatment of IBD . CBD Relieves Pain and Reduces Inflammation CBD provides effective pain relief for many patients. It also can provide neuropathic pain relief , a difficult-to-manage symptom of nervous system damage or dysfunction. Research finds CBD to be effective against chronic pain and inflammation . In clinical trials, patients do not seem to build up a tolerance for CBD . Where effective, it continues to work with few to no side-effects . Repeated studies demonstrate CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties through multiple systems of the body. It supports your immune system’s ability to manage unhealthy levels of inflammation. It also can assist with cell apoptosis, or killing off cells that are malfunctioning but haven’t been removed by the body’s immune system. By interacting with receptors in the endocannabinoid system, CBD helps modulate and balance immune activity. Researchers in 2008 were fascinated to discover it could stimulate T-cells to boost immune activity or do the opposite and act as an immunosuppressive to ameliorate the body’s attack on healthy cells. CBD can stimulate immune function or help your body calm down an overactive immune response. CBD Calms the Nervous System The endocannabinoid system has receptors that stretch from head to toe, including through the central and peripheral nervous systems. CBD’s calming effect on the central nervous system is apparent in its well-studied anxiety and depression-relieving properties. CBD can also improve sleep . In addition to relieving pain, supporting healthy digestion, and regulating sleep, Organic Full Spectrum CBD and Synergy Enhanced Terpene Infusions help to balance mood disorders by modulating serotonin and other hormone levels. Nature on Your Side CBD’s unique relationship with the human endocannabinoid system and body-wide anti-inflammatory effects make it an excellent candidate to reduce symptoms of both fibromyalgia and Crohn’s disease. Please speak with your doctor before combining CBD with existing medications, especially if your medication comes with a grapefruit warning. CBD can influence how your body absorbs drugs. At Jampha, we carefully combine our organic, full-spectrum CBD oil with an array of plant terpenes. You can see research on the health benefits of these remarkable molecules in our Glossary of Terpenes . For the symptoms discussed in this blog, our Balance , Relieve , and Calm Synergy-Enhanced Terpene Infusions (SETI) include plant terpenes selected to enhance the pain-relieving, mood-balancing, and anti-inflammatory properties of CBD. They are also available without CBD . To apply CBD directly to affected areas for pain relief and to reduce inflammation, we recommend our terpene-enhanced Relieve and Icy Blue topicals . We create a unique and powerful Tibetan Botanical Support called WHITE TIGER for individuals struggling with Crohn’s disease or fibromyalgia may be approaching healing from every possible angle: diet, lifestyle changes, medication, and education. CBD may be one piece in the puzzle of your wellness picture. If you have any questions about our products, please give us a call .
